Some facts about Alno

Havstoviken is as familiar to Alnön, in 65 km ² large island outside Sundsvall. Pre-, that is Sweden 13:e largest, is 15 km long and 6 km wide at its widest point.

The island is included in the post town and parish Alno, which also includes Rödön with several smaller islands. Though the population is currently only on Alnön, and amounts to 8 417 (per the 2010-12-31). Summertime more than double the number of residents on the island.

The buildings are spread out across the island but has its greatest concentration along Alno Strait, particularly near the bridge in Vi or Alno center (4 997 invånare for 2010-12-31), where public services in the form of, inter alia stores, restaurants, petrol stations, gym, library, Pharmacy, dental, medical and veterinary are. Other cities and small towns are Ankarsvik (944 inv.), Gustavsberg (254 inv.), Hartungviken (235 inv.), Hovid (225 inv.),Hörningsholm (166 inv.), Rödö and Barang (193 population).

Alnön is known for its hunting of wildlife as it is very tight with the animals on the island.

ALNÖ Bridge, consecrated 1964, each with their 1 042 meters Sverigens longest bridge until 1972 then Öland bridge was built. It took a workforce of 40-55 man 3,5 years to build the 9,4 meter wide bridge over the Strait Alno. It is about 42 feet high and approximately 40 meter freestyle segelhöjd. The bridge replaced an earlier ferry service, and enables a large part of the population Alnöns working in Sundsvall.
